Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

A Good Fall Day for a Little Play "Goodnight Moon"

A Good Fall Day for a Little Play "Goodnight Moon"

When I caught an e-mail about the Randy Weeks Theater at the Denver Center for Performing Arts Theater downtown doing a running of the play version of the famous children’s book, “Goodnight Moon,” I literally called for tickets immediately. No exaggeration necessary for my enthusiasm and these productions! We saw Corduroy last fall as a family, see here, and we had such great memories STILL of that performance that I knew we were in for another great afternoon with the theater. “Goodnight Moon,” did not disappoint.

I have to admit I wasn’t quite sure how they would translate such a SHORT, simple, bedtime classic into an hour long stage performance, but they DID it! By golly, they did it! ALL of the actors and actresses were flawless. The set was a mirror image to the book, and the costumes and music to accompany were perfection, right down to the Tooth Fairy’s lit up, glow-in-the-dark flatform oxfords and irridescent quilted work suit- I notice these things, plus I sat on the floor space in the very front and caught ALL the details- INCREDIBLE!

The show runs into February, so you have time to try and catch it! The recommended age rage is pre k through third grade, but I will say even I enjoyed the show, and many adults were roaring with laughter. Rem’s favorite part was Bunny’s struggle with the lamp- I can hear her guttural chuckle in my heart just typing this out…

Before the show we walked over to The Market and had a little light lunch. The hot chocolate and the cherry Italian soda was a highlight. Lo loved the show too, but she got a little sleepy- she is my early riser and all the anticipation and hoopla before tuckered her out, and the front floor seating was the perfect positioning to prop her up and be her pillow. She made it through the short show, I’ll have to ask her again what part was her favorite… I know the Mouse was a hit too- and gave us a all a shock in the opening, let’s say!

I am over the moon myself when I get to spend an afternoon downtown with my little ladies, and sharing the theater with them is becoming quite a special bonding thing. I can’t believe we are here, going to the theater, getting access to the arts programs and we don’t even have to wait for a school trip- we are so blessed to be able to do this for the girls. I know there may be some opportunities through the local schools and funding scholarships to see the show- I know that SCFD made a lot of my childhood experiences possible inn that way. Cheers to the theater!
