BRAVO!!! Colorado Ballet: Alice (In Wonderland)

Incredible. That's it.  You MUST go see this production of Alice (In Wonderland) by Colorado Ballet!  The interpretation was SO unique!  From the way Alice GREW and shrunk, to the incorporation of the academy students, two words- baby flamingos- the ballet was an unforgettable girls' night out.

Sharon Wehner, in her 20th season with Colorado Ballet, danced the main role of Alice.  This role was MADE for her!  She IS Alice!  I was exhausted for her, as she was in nearly EVERY scene and on stage about 98% of the time.  A true prima ballerina, bending, floating- the ocean and fish scene was ADORABLE- pirouetting around the stage, all the while holding character and a giddy, school-girl smile and demeanor.  The way she teased the rabbit, and mimicked the frog, she had the audience smiling and engaged from the curtain draw.

My absolute favorite part had to be THE CATERPILLAR.  You guys- this scene!  The best!  Oh, and did I mention the BABY FLAMINGOS?!?!?

We can't forget to mention, the Queen of Hearts, played by the STUNNING, legendary Maria Mosina, also celebrating her 20th season with Colorado Ballet!  I only wished she had more dance in the role!  The audience ached to see her body move more too, I had a feeling.  We wanted more.  Again, THIS role was meant for Mosina as Alice was to Wehner. Perfect casting for opening night!

The show only runs with four more performances this weekend, so PLEASE, get your tickets today!  Call your sitter, grab your guy or best gal and GO!

Not your typical classical ballet, this had more of a contemporary vibe, almost Cirque de Soleil-like.  Lots of lifts, tons of acrobatic work from the male dancers- the principle male dancer in the bird scene- AMAZING!  The costumes, the back drops, the score- all in combination with the dancing and it made for such an entertaining evening. EVERYONE left chatting, giggling, and I am sure talking, about Colorado Ballet in a whole new way.

As a momma, I will say I did see lots of children in attendance, and I DID find it very kid friendly- HOWEVER, for older children. The first Act is nearly an hour and a half long- no breaks!  So, I would say like second or third grade and up, in my opinion.

Did you see it?!  I want to go AGAIN!
